HBU College of Continuing Studies summer reading courses promote love of reading

In partnership with the Institute of Reading Development, the Houston Baptist University College of Continuing Studies is offering reading skills programs for children and adults on the HBU campus this summer.

The programs, designed and taught by professional instructors from the Institute of Reading Development, help participants develop and improve skills in phonics, comprehension, vocabulary, and speed reading.

Each of the eight reading skills programs is targeted to the needs of students of a specific age and/or grade-level:

• 4-Year-Olds and Entering Kindergarteners
• Entering 1st Graders
• Entering 2nd Graders
• Entering 3rd Graders
• Entering 4th or 5th Graders
• Entering 6th, 7th, or 8th Graders
• Entering 9th, 10th, or 11th Graders
• Entering 12th Graders, College Students, or Adults

Each program meets once a week over a five-week period, and the first of two summer sessions begins on the HBU campus on Saturday, June 5. A second five-week summer session on the HBU campus begins Saturday, July 17. Registration began March 25 and continues through June 30.
