Devotional Poetry is a course designed to expose students to the great and diverse body of English language Christian devotional poetry. Writers explored will include but are not limited to John Donne, George Herbert, William Wordsworth, Emily Dickinson, T. S. Eliot, Louise Gluck and Charles Wright. We will discuss the relationship between the language of poetry and the scripture, the role of poetry in the devotional life, and reading methods to help students both understand and appreciate the language of poetry.
